Ms. Becca

Ms. Becca is the ECE-3 Early Childhood Special Education teacher at McKinley-Thatcher. She was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and is an East High School DPS alum. She loves playing outside – skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, and hiking, camping, and canoeing in the warmer months. It was her love for the outdoors that inspired her to become a teacher. After graduating from college at the University of Puget Sound, she pursued an outdoor education career teaching 5th grade students in Granby, Colorado. She loved working in the mountains and teaching children about the environment, however, she knew that she wanted to work with preschoolers. Her passion for working with young children started when she was only 8 years old, when she co-founded a summer camp for neighborhood toddlers, with her two best friends. The small business lasted 5 years and was influential in both her personal and professional development. Later in college she had the opportunity to work in a therapeutic nursery in New York City, where she developed her love for working with young children who have special needs. She holds a MA from the University of Colorado Denver in Early Childhood Special Education, and has been teaching since 2010. She believes in the power of experiential learning and that all children have the capacity to be models for one another, no matter what their needs.
