Whole Child Development Through Play-Based Learning

Our most important learning time of the day is called choice time. During this hour, children are free to utilize any classroom materials they choose. Each day various tables are set up to encourage children to investigate a variety of materials. Writing, art, math, sensory, and science activities based around our unit of study are set up for children to explore. These activities encourage problem solving, teamwork, creativity, and the development of the whole-child. Children have the opportunity to develop their cognitive, math, literacy, and social-emotional skills through embedded activities into play. We believe that children should be the drivers of their own play, and that the teacher's role is to facilitate and deepen their thinking through differentiated instruction, questioning, and exploration. Our classroom emphasizes that the process of learning is more important than the product. Students have ample time and space to investigate open-ended activities that encourage their whole-self development.

"Tell me and I'll forget.

Teach me and I'll remember.

Involve me and I'll learn."
